Rabby Wallet review 2026: the DeFi user's MetaMask alternative

Rabby is one of the best wallets for Ethereum and other EVM chains if you use DeFi, because it shows what a transaction will do before you sign. It is free to use, open source and works with most hardware wallets. It does not support Bitcoin or Solana, and its built-in swaps cost 0.25%.

Status (as of October 2026): Active. Rabby Wallet is built by DeBank, the DeFi portfolio company. No ownership change. Recent changes: a browser-extension signature bug was fixed on 11 Aug 2026 (see below), and new EVM networks keep being added. Rabby had about 900,000 Chrome users, with the extension last updated on 23 Sep 2026 (ChromeBoard, Oct 2026). The Block rated it its top software wallet at 4.5 out of 5 (The Block, Oct 2026).

Verdict

Rabby was designed for people who connect to DeFi apps every day. Before you sign, it simulates the transaction and shows which tokens leave and enter your wallet, and it warns you about risky contracts, new contracts and unknown addresses. It switches to the right network automatically, which removes a common source of confusion in MetaMask.

It is limited to EVM chains, so you will need another wallet for Bitcoin, Solana or TON. And while the security checks help, they are not a guarantee. You still need to read what you sign.

Fees

ActionCost (as of October 2026)
In-app swap0.25%, charged since July 2024. Waived for some same-chain pairs Rabby lists, such as certain stablecoin pairs and ETH to wrapped ETH
In-app bridge0.25%
Gas AccountLets you pay gas with stablecoins on other chains. Rabby says it adds no markup on gas, though a small delivery cost applies
Sending, receiving, connecting to appsNo Rabby fee; you pay network gas

Fee details: CryptoActu (3 Oct 2026) and CoinLaw (Jun 2026). DeFiLlama data put Rabby's annualised swap fee revenue at about $4.88 million (as reported by CoinLaw, 30 Jun 2026). Rabby's 0.25% is lower than MetaMask's 0.875%, and you can avoid it entirely by swapping directly on a DEX.

Is Rabby safe?

Security model

Rabby is a standard self-custody wallet: your keys are encrypted on your device and protected by a password. Its main safety layer is what happens before signing. It runs a simulation, flags contracts deployed in the last few days, checks sites against several scam lists, and warns when you send to an address that is not in your contacts. A built-in approvals page lets you revoke old token approvals.

Two caveats. WalletBeat notes that these checks send addresses and site names to outside services, which is a privacy trade-off. It also lists some findings from the October 2024 mobile audits as not yet fixed. Rabby runs a bug bounty with rewards of up to 10,000 USDC.

Incident history

DateWhat happenedResponse
Oct 2022Less than a month after launch, the Rabby Swap router contract was exploited and tokens users had approved to it were drained. The attacker moved about 114 ETH and 179 BNB, roughly $195,000 at the time (Web3 Is Going Great, 11 Oct 2022). The contract had been audited by PeckShield.Rabby told Swap users to revoke all approvals on all chains and said other users were unaffected (The Block, 11 Oct 2022). No reimbursement was announced.
Aug 2026A "silent signature" bug in the browser extension: a malicious site could extract signatures without the user noticing, but only when the user had manually set auto-lock to 10 minutes. The mobile app was not affected.Rabby said it released a fix on 11 Aug 2026. No exploitation was reported (TechFlow, 20 Aug 2026).

Key features

  • Transaction simulation showing balance changes before you sign.
  • Automatic network switching when you connect to an app.
  • Multi-chain portfolio view from DeBank data, across all your EVM addresses.
  • Approvals manager to review and revoke token allowances.
  • Hardware wallet and multisig support, including Safe accounts.
  • Watch-only addresses to track wallets without importing keys.
  • Gas Account to pay fees without holding each chain's native token.

Seed phrase and recovery

Rabby uses standard seed phrases, so a wallet created in Rabby can be restored in MetaMask or any other EVM wallet that supports the same format, and the other way round. That makes switching low-risk: you are never locked in. The extension, mobile app and desktop app do not sync with each other through an account. You restore each one with your seed phrase or private key.

Rabby cannot recover a lost seed phrase or password. If you forget your password but have the seed phrase, reinstall and import it. If you lose the seed phrase and the device, the funds are gone. For larger balances, a hardware wallet keeps the keys off your computer entirely, and Rabby will still show you simulations before you approve on the device.

How it compares with MetaMask

MetaMask supports more ecosystems, having added Solana and native Bitcoin in 2025, and is integrated into almost every app. Rabby is narrower but better at explaining what you are about to sign, and its swap fee is lower (0.25% against 0.875%). Many DeFi users install both. Our MetaMask vs Rabby comparison goes through the differences in detail.

Setting up safely

  1. Go to rabby.io by typing it or using a bookmark. Search ads and lookalike sites for wallet downloads are common.
  2. Install the extension only from the official browser store listing linked from that site, and check the publisher and user count.
  3. Create a new seed phrase, or import from MetaMask if you are switching. Write the phrase down offline; see seed phrase safety.
  4. For larger amounts, connect a hardware wallet and keep only spending money in a hot address.
  5. Read each simulation result. If the preview shows assets leaving that you did not expect, reject the request.

Pros and cons

Who it suits

Good for: active DeFi users on Ethereum and layer-2 networks, people managing several addresses, and anyone who wants extra checks before signing.

Look elsewhere if: you hold Bitcoin, Solana or TON, or you want one simple app for many chains. Complete beginners may find a multi-chain mobile wallet easier to start with.
