Crypto wallet fees compared
Installing a software wallet is almost always free, but in-app swaps are not. As of October 2026, wallet swap fees run from 0% (Uniswap Wallet) to about 1% (Coinbase Wallet) at most big wallets, some routes and spread-based quotes cost more, and many wallets publish no fixed rate. Network fees and price impact come on top.
The fees you can pay
- Network (gas) fee: paid to the blockchain, not the wallet. Unavoidable.
- Wallet swap fee: a percentage the wallet adds to in-app swaps and sometimes bridges.
- Provider fee or spread: charged by the aggregator, DEX or exchange partner behind the swap, often built into the rate you see.
- Price impact and slippage: the cost of trading against limited liquidity.
- Buy and sell fees: card and bank purchases run through third-party providers with their own fees.
- Staking commission: a share of rewards kept by the validator or service.

How to read this table
- "No fixed rate" is not "free". Wallets that route through partners or quote a spread still earn on swaps; the cost is inside the rate.
- Compare the amount you receive. The best test is to quote the same swap in two places and compare the final amount after all fees.
- Size matters. On a $100 swap, network fees often dominate; on a $10,000 swap, a 0.875% fee is $87.50.
- Fees change. Wallets run promotions and change rates without much notice. We recheck this table regularly; always read the quote screen.
How to pay less
- For large swaps, compare the wallet quote with a DEX or aggregator you reach yourself, or a reputable exchange.
- Avoid frequent small swaps on expensive networks.
- Set a sensible slippage limit; very high slippage invites worse prices.
- Never chase a cheaper price through links in DMs or ads; that is how drainers find victims (see wallet drainers).
