Bitget Wallet review 2026: the former BitKeep, now a payments-first wallet

Bitget Wallet is a popular multi-chain self-custody wallet with a published fee schedule, gas paid in stablecoins and a crypto card in 50+ markets. It suits mobile users in emerging markets and active traders. Its history as BitKeep includes two 2022 losses, both of which it promised to repay, and much of the code is closed.

Status as of October 2026: Bitget Wallet, formerly BitKeep, belongs to the Bitget exchange group. Bitget invested $30 million in BitKeep in March 2023 (Cision release, 22 Mar 2023), and the wallet took the Bitget name later that year. Bitget Wallet says it has more than 100 million users and that daily payment users now outnumber traders (Bitget Wallet press release, 7 Jul 2026). On 24 Sep 2026 the Bitget exchange lost funds from its hot wallets. Bitget estimated about $351.6 million at first (ForkLog, 25 Sep 2026), and The Block later put it at about $388 million. Bitget's CEO said Bitget Wallet runs on separate infrastructure and was not affected.

Verdict

Bitget Wallet has turned into a payments app as much as a trading wallet. You can hold coins across a very wide range of chains, swap and bridge them, pay gas in USDT or USDC through its GetGas feature, and spend through a Mastercard-based card.

It also publishes a clear swap fee schedule, which many rivals do not. On the minus side, swaps on long-tail tokens can cost over 1%, the company behind it also runs an exchange that was hacked in September 2026, and you cannot read all of the app's code.

Is Bitget Wallet safe?

With a seed phrase wallet, your keys live on your phone and Bitget cannot move your funds. The keyless option splits the key into parts with MPC, so there is no single phrase to lose. You do depend on Bitget's servers and your login for recovery. Bitget also flags risky tokens and dApps using GoPlus Security data.

Like any wallet that connects to DeFi, the main risks are fake apps, phishing sites and malicious approvals, not the core cryptography.

Key features

  • Swaps and bridges across many chains, with a published fee table.
  • GetGas: pay network fees in stablecoins such as USDT or USDC, including on chains where you hold no native coin.
  • Bitget Wallet Card: a Mastercard-based card. Bitget says more than 150,000 cards have been issued, usable in 50+ markets (press release, 7 Jul 2026).
  • Payments: QR payments in parts of Southeast Asia and Latin America and bank links in Nigeria, Mexico and Bangladesh, according to Bitget.
  • dApp browser and extension for DeFi and NFTs.

Supported coins and recovery

Bitget Wallet covers Bitcoin, Ethereum and its layer 2s, BNB Chain, Solana, Tron, TON and many smaller chains. One seed phrase controls all of them. Bitget says more than half its users are in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa and Latin America, which explains its focus on stablecoins and local payment rails.

To restore a seed phrase wallet, reinstall the app and enter your words. Because the phrase uses the BIP39 standard, you can usually restore the same accounts in another multi-chain wallet if you leave. A keyless wallet is restored by logging in with the same email or Google account and passing Bitget's recovery checks. Losing access to that account, or having it hijacked, is the main risk, so protect it like a bank login.

Bitget staff will never ask for your seed phrase or private key in chat, email or Telegram.

Setting up safely

  1. Install only from web3.bitget.com or the official app stores. Type web3.bitget.com yourself or use a bookmark. Never install an Android APK from a link sent in chat; that is exactly how the 2022 theft worked.
  2. Search carefully. Many fake "Bitget Wallet" and "BitKeep" guides sit on free hosting sites. The old BitKeep name is a common lure.
  3. Back up your seed phrase on paper, or if you use keyless mode, secure the email or Google account with strong two-factor authentication.
  4. Start small and check the swap fee line before confirming.

Who Bitget Wallet suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit: mobile-first users who want to pay and save in stablecoins, people in markets where Bitget's payment rails work, and traders who want many chains in one app.

Look elsewhere if: you want open-source code, a wallet with no exchange behind it, or the cheapest possible swaps on small tokens.

Alternatives

  • OKX Wallet: similar scope, works with Ledger, Trezor and Keystone.
  • Trust Wallet: the biggest multi-chain mobile wallet, owned by Binance.
  • SafePal: mobile app plus low-cost hardware wallets.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bitget Wallet safe?

It is a self-custody wallet, so Bitget cannot move funds in a seed phrase wallet. As BitKeep it suffered a swap exploit of about $1 million and a fake-app theft of about $8 million in 2022, and promised full repayment for both. The September 2026 Bitget exchange hack did not affect the wallet, according to Bitget.

Is Bitget Wallet the same as BitKeep?

Yes. BitKeep was renamed Bitget Wallet in 2023 after the Bitget exchange invested $30 million in it.

What are Bitget Wallet's swap fees?

From 0% for wrapping a coin up to 0.5% for same-chain swaps and 0.3% to 1.3% for cross-chain swaps, plus network fees, according to Bitget Wallet's help centre in October 2026.

Do I need a Bitget exchange account?

No. You can create a self-custody wallet with a seed phrase without an exchange account. Some features, such as the card, need identity checks.

Was Bitget Wallet hacked in September 2026?

No. On 24 Sep 2026 attackers drained hot wallets of the Bitget exchange. Bitget said Bitget Wallet runs on separate infrastructure and was not affected.
