Binance Wallet review 2026: self-custody inside the Binance app
Binance Wallet is a convenient self-custody wallet for people who already use Binance. It gives you early access to Alpha tokens and airdrops with keyless MPC security. But it is closed source, tied to a verified Binance account for its default keyless mode and does not work with hardware wallets, so it is not for long-term savings.
Status as of October 2026: Binance Wallet is made by Binance and built into the Binance app. It launched in 2023 as Binance Web3 Wallet and was relaunched under its current name in December 2024 (BeInCrypto). A browser extension arrived in beta in August 2025 (FX News Group, 26 Aug 2025), and accounts can now hold up to five keyless wallets. Binance moved its NFT service into Binance Wallet in 2026: users had until 3 Jul 2026 to move NFTs off the exchange (Traders Union, 3 Jun 2026). Binance also owns Trust Wallet, which is a separate app.
Verdict
Binance Wallet's appeal is simple. If you already have a Binance account, you get a self-custody on-chain wallet in the same app. It funds straight from your exchange balance and offers early access to new tokens through Binance Alpha and airdrop campaigns. That is why it became one of the busiest wallets by swap volume: about $5 billion in daily swaps in May 2025, per Dune data (The Block, 20 May 2025).
The catch is that it lives inside an exchange account. Keyless wallets need a verified Binance account, recovery relies on Binance's systems, the code is closed and hardware wallets are not supported. Treat it as a trading wallet, not a vault.

| Platforms | iOS and Android (Binance app), Chrome and Brave extension, web |

| Swaps in the app | Service fee of 0% to 0.5%, depending on the token group. Alpha tokens are in a separate fee group (Binance fee schedule dated 29 Jun 2026, as reported by CryptoSlate) |

| Network fees | Paid on every on-chain transaction |
| Buying with cash | Through Binance Pay Onchain or card providers, with their own charges |
Fees as of October 2026. Binance ran a zero-fee promotion on all wallet pairs from 17 Mar to 17 Sep 2025 (The Defiant), so older reviews may say swaps are free. See our wallet fees comparison.
Is Binance Wallet safe?
A keyless wallet's key is split into three shares stored in different places, including your device and an encrypted cloud backup protected by a recovery password. Binance holds one share for recovery and says it cannot sign transactions alone. There is no seed phrase to steal or lose. You do rely on Binance's systems, your Binance account and your region staying supported.
If you want to leave, you can convert a keyless wallet to a private key wallet. This step is irreversible, removes keyless recovery and needs identity verification. Imported seed phrase wallets are not covered by keyless backup. Our MPC vs seed phrase guide compares the two models.
Incident history
We found no reported hack of Binance Wallet itself as of October 2026. Related events:
| Date | What happened | Response |
|---|---|---|
| May 2019 | The Binance exchange lost about 7,000 BTC from a hot wallet. This was an exchange hack, before the wallet existed | Binance covered the loss from its SAFU fund |
| Nov 2023 | Binance agreed to a $4.3 billion US settlement over compliance, money transmission and sanctions failures | A compliance case, not about the wallet's code |
| Oct 2025 | SlowMist's extension audit found six issues, including a high-risk plaintext key storage problem (CryptoSlate) | The high-risk issue was marked fixed. One low-severity finding stayed open |
The most common real-world losses are phishing and fake "Binance support" contacts. See crypto wallet scams and the incident tracker.
Key features
- Binance Alpha: a section highlighting early-stage tokens chosen by Binance. Being on Alpha does not guarantee an exchange listing, quality or profit.
- Airdrops and token campaigns that may need you to hold Alpha points or use a keyless wallet.
- Use Exchange Balance: fund on-chain purchases straight from your Binance account.
- Risk alerts for suspicious tokens, contracts and addresses.
- Up to five keyless wallets per account, usable in the extension by pairing with the app.
- Yield through third-party protocols such as Aave and Venus, which carry their own smart-contract risks.
Supported coins and recovery
Binance Wallet covers the big ecosystems: Bitcoin, Ethereum and its layer 2s, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, Tron, Sui and TON, among others. Cryptonews counted 34 blockchains in January 2026. The mobile app handles Bitcoin, but the extension does not, so keep Bitcoin in the app or another wallet.
Recovery depends on the wallet type. A keyless wallet is restored through the Binance app using your cloud backup and the recovery password you set, with Binance's share completing the key. Quick Backup, iCloud or Google Drive, and QR backup are the options. An imported seed phrase wallet is restored only with its seed phrase, and keyless backup does not cover it.
If you might ever leave Binance, or your country could lose access, plan an exit. Converting to a private key wallet, or moving funds to a seed phrase wallet you control, removes the dependence on your Binance account.
Setting up safely
- Use the official Binance app from the App Store or Google Play, or type binance.com yourself and use a bookmark. Check the extension publisher in the Chrome Web Store.
- Secure your Binance account first: passkey or authenticator app 2FA, anti-phishing code and withdrawal allowlist.
- Set a strong, unique recovery password for the keyless backup and store it offline.
- Never share pairing codes or QR codes with anyone claiming to be Binance support.
- Treat Alpha tokens as high risk. Many new tokens fall sharply after launch.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| No seed phrase to lose with keyless MPC | Keyless mode needs a verified Binance account |
| Funds directly from your exchange balance | Closed source |
| Early token access via Alpha and airdrops | No hardware wallet support |
| Swap fees of 0% to 0.5% | Recovery depends on Binance's systems and your region |
| No hack of the wallet on record | Alpha tokens are highly speculative |
Who Binance Wallet suits, and who should look elsewhere
Good fit: existing Binance users who want to try on-chain tokens, airdrops and BNB Chain DeFi without managing a seed phrase.
Look elsewhere if: you want independence from an exchange, open-source code, or a hardware wallet for long-term holdings.
A practical approach is to keep only what you are actively trading in Binance Wallet and move longer-term holdings to a hardware wallet or a seed phrase wallet you control. That limits what is exposed if your Binance account is locked, restricted in your country or taken over.
Alternatives
- Trust Wallet: also Binance-owned, but a standalone seed phrase wallet with no account needed.
- OKX Wallet: exchange-backed, wider chain list and hardware wallet support.
- Zengo: a standalone MPC wallet with no exchange account.

Frequently asked questions
Is Binance Wallet custodial?
No. Binance Wallet is self-custody. Keyless wallets split the key into three shares, and Binance holds one for recovery but says it cannot sign alone. Your exchange balance is separate and is custodial.
Is Binance Wallet the same as Binance Web3 Wallet?
Yes. Binance Web3 Wallet was relaunched as Binance Wallet in December 2024.
What are Binance Wallet's fees?
Swaps in the app carry a service fee of 0% to 0.5% depending on the token, plus network fees, as of October 2026. TON swaps, Bridge and Use Exchange Balance are exempt from the service fee.
Does Binance Wallet have a seed phrase?
Keyless wallets do not. You can import a seed phrase or private key wallet instead, or convert a keyless wallet into a private key wallet, which is irreversible.
Is Binance Wallet the same as Trust Wallet?
No. Both are owned by Binance, but Trust Wallet is a separate app that uses a seed phrase and needs no Binance account.
What is Binance Alpha?
A section of Binance Wallet that highlights early-stage tokens picked by Binance. Appearing on Alpha does not mean a token will be listed on the exchange or that it is safe.
