Solflare review 2026: the Solana wallet for stakers and hardware users

Solflare is a focused, well-run Solana wallet with strong staking tools, good scam warnings and support for Ledger, Keystone and its own Shield card. It only supports Solana, its code is only partly open, and it does not publish a fixed swap fee. If you hold mostly SOL and Solana tokens, it is one of the best choices.

Status (as of October 2026): Active. Built by Solflare, a Zagreb, Croatia-based team launched in 2021 and run by co-CEOs Filip Dragoslavic and Vidor Gencel. Solflare says it has more than 4 million monthly active users (Solflare, Nov 2025). Recent changes: the Solflare Shield hardware card was announced on 4 Dec 2025 at $49 to $79 depending on version, with shipping from February 2026 (Solflare press release, 4 Dec 2025); in-app perpetual futures through Phoenix (Solana Compass, 24 Aug 2026); and the Solflare debit card was paused on 28 Jul 2026 after its issuing partner Kulipa wound down (SpendNode, 29 Jul 2026). Solflare said a replacement was expected in August 2026; we could not confirm whether it has launched.

Verdict

Solflare does one thing: Solana. That focus shows. Staking is clear and flexible, scam warnings are detailed, and it supports more hardware options than most Solana wallets. The Block rates it 4.3, ahead of Phantom (The Block ratings, Oct 2026).

The trade-offs are scope and transparency. If you also hold Bitcoin or Ethereum, you will need a second wallet, or a multi-chain one such as Phantom. Solflare also does not publish a fixed swap fee, and only parts of its code are open source.

Fees

Send and receiveSolana network fee only, usually a fraction of a cent
SwapsNo fixed rate published by Solflare. The Block lists 0.8% (The Block ratings, Oct 2026). The in-app quote is binding
StakingNo Solflare fee for native staking; validators take a commission from rewards, often about 3% to 7%. Instant unstake costs roughly 0.5% to 3% (Coin Bureau, Aug 2026)
No-SOL swapsThe network fee is taken from one of the swapped tokens (added June 2026)

Swaps route through aggregators such as Jupiter and Titan, so price impact and slippage matter as much as any platform fee. The default slippage setting is 0.5%. For comparison, Phantom charges 0.85% on swaps (Cryptonews, 2026). See wallet fees compared.

Security model

Solflare is a hot wallet: your keys are encrypted on your device and protected by a password, PIN or biometrics. Its "Guards" feature simulates transactions before you sign and warns about known drainers, unexpected balance changes, token delegations and risky stake instructions. For larger balances you can keep the keys on a Ledger, a Keystone or Solflare's own Shield card, so the phone or computer never holds them.

Shield has no screen. You check transaction details on your phone, which is weaker than a hardware wallet with its own display, and we found no complete independent audit of it (Coin Bureau, Aug 2026).

Incident history

DateWhat happenedResponse
2 Aug 2022About 8,000 to 9,000 Solana wallets were drained. Investigators traced the leak to Slope wallet, which logged seed phrases unencrypted; affected users of other wallets had imported Slope seeds (The Block, Aug 2022).Not a Solflare flaw. Users who had ever imported a seed into Slope were told to move funds.
Aug 2023ConsenSys Diligence found two major issues in the Solflare MetaMask Snap: a suppressed signing prompt and a prompt-injection risk (Coin Bureau, Aug 2026).Marked fixed. No user losses were linked to them.
28 Jul 2026The Solflare Card stopped working when issuer Kulipa wound down (SpendNode, 29 Jul 2026).No funds were lost, because the card spent USDC directly from users' wallets. Wallet, swaps and staking were unaffected.

We know of no exploit of Solflare's own wallet software. The most common real-world risk is phishing: cloned Solflare sites reached through typo domains and search ads, and fake "support" accounts. Our wallet security incidents page tracks wider events.

Key features

  • Staking to the validator you choose, with an instant-unstake option.
  • Swaps through Jupiter and Titan, including swaps without holding SOL for gas.
  • Perps: more than 65 leveraged markets with up to 25x leverage through Phoenix, using USDC collateral that stays in your wallet. High leverage can wipe out your position quickly.
  • Hardware support for Ledger (USB, and Bluetooth with Nano X on mobile), Keystone and Shield.
  • Reclaim SOL: close empty token accounts to recover the SOL locked as rent.
  • NFT gallery and home-screen widgets on mobile.

Staking SOL with Solflare

Staking is Solflare's strongest feature. You pick a validator from a list that shows its commission and performance, delegate your SOL and keep full ownership of it: the coins stay in a stake account controlled by your keys. Rewards are paid by the network each epoch, after the validator takes its commission, typically about 3% to 7% of rewards (Coin Bureau, Aug 2026). Solflare adds no fee of its own to native staking.

Unstaking normally takes until the end of the current epoch, which on Solana usually means a wait of a few days. If you need the SOL sooner, the instant-unstake option swaps your staked position for liquid SOL at a cost of roughly 0.5% to 3% (Coin Bureau, Aug 2026). For most holders, waiting is the cheaper choice.

A practical tip: spread large amounts across two or three reputable validators rather than one, and avoid validators with 100% commission, which pay you nothing. If you stake from a Ledger or Shield, the stake account is still controlled by the hardware device.

Setting up safely

  1. Type the official domain solflare.com yourself or use a bookmark. Fake Solflare sites and search ads are common.
  2. Install the app from the App Store or Google Play, or the extension from the Chrome or Firefox store, and check that the publisher is Solflare.
  3. Write down the recovery phrase on paper and store it offline. Never type it into a website.
  4. For meaningful amounts, create the wallet on a Ledger, Keystone or Shield instead of storing keys in the app.
  5. Read every Guards warning before signing, and remove permissions you no longer use. See wallet drainers.

Pros and cons

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

It suits SOL holders who stake, people who want to use a Ledger with Solana, and active Solana DeFi users.

Look elsewhere if you hold Bitcoin, Ethereum or other chains and want a single app, or if you require fully open-source software.

Alternatives

  • Phantom: the most popular Solana wallet, also supporting Ethereum, Base and Bitcoin. See Phantom vs Solflare.
  • Ledger: a hardware wallet that Solflare supports for cold storage.
  • Trust Wallet: a multi-chain mobile wallet that also covers Solana.

Frequently asked questions

Is Solflare safe?

We know of no exploit of Solflare's own wallet software. It simulates transactions and warns about drainers, and it supports Ledger, Keystone and its Shield card. The main risks are phishing sites and fake support accounts.

What fees does Solflare charge?

Sending costs only the Solana network fee. Solflare does not publish a fixed swap fee; The Block lists 0.8% (October 2026). Native staking has no Solflare fee, but validators take a commission from rewards.

Does Solflare support Ethereum or Bitcoin?

No. Solflare supports only Solana. You can bridge assets in from other chains, but you cannot hold Bitcoin or Ether natively.

Can I use Solflare with a Ledger?

Yes. Ledger works with the web app and extension over USB and with the mobile app over Bluetooth on a Nano X. Keystone and Solflare Shield are also supported.

What happened to the Solflare Card?

It stopped working on 28 July 2026 when issuing partner Kulipa wound down. No funds were lost because the card spent USDC from users' own wallets. Solflare said a replacement was coming.

Solflare or Phantom?

Solflare is better for staking and hardware wallet users who only need Solana. Phantom is better if you also want Ethereum, Base or Bitcoin in one app.
